It gives us immense pleasure to invite you to ezACBICON, the East Zone Conference of the Association of Clinical Biochemists of India, being held for the very first time in Odisha, the sacred land of Lord Jagannath. This inaugural event is proudly organized by the Department of Biochemistry, AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

The ancient city of Puri is inseparably linked with Lord Jagannath and holds a revered place as one of the Char Dham—the four sacred pilgrimage sites established by Adi Shankaracharya. Beyond its profound spiritual significance, Puri offers a rare blend of devotion and leisure, where seekers of liberation can also embrace enjoyment and adventure. The city is dotted with ancient shrines and mathas (ashrams), each narrating unique stories that enrich the broader spiritual legacy of Lord Jagannath. Along its eastern edge stretch the golden shores of Puri, renowned as some of the safest beaches in India. Here, visitors can be seen relaxing in the sea or taking tranquil dips, with the beach bustling with activity throughout the day, save for the quiet lull of the afternoon. Puri stands out as a destination that harmoniously combines spiritual enlightenment with the beauty of nature. located just 15 kilometers from Bhubaneswar, Nandankanan meaning “celestial garden” was established on December 29, 1960. Unlike conventional zoos, Nandankanan is seamlessly integrated into a natural forest setting, offering animals expansive enclosures that closely resemble their native habitats. This unique environment allows them to thrive in healthier, more adaptive conditions. Over the years, Nandankanan has earned global recognition as a pioneering zoological park. It is celebrated for its majestic White Tigers and holds the historic distinction of being the first zoo in the world to successfully breed endangered Gharials in captivity. With its blend of conservation, innovation, and natural beauty, Nandankanan continues to captivate visitors while contributing significantly to wildlife preservation.
Constructed in 1972 by the Japan Buddha Sangha and the Kalinga Nippon Buddha Sangha, the Dhauli Shanti Stupa stands at the historic site of the Kalinga War, just 10 km from Bhubaneswar. Symbolizing the transformation of conflict into compassion, the Stupa honours Emperor Ashoka’s message of peace. Its prominence is reflected in the logo of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, which proudly features the monument.
Located 7 km from the conference venue, in the heart of Bhubaneswar, the Lingaraj Temple rises to an awe-inspiring height of 180 feet. Built in the 11th century AD, it has been hailed by historian James Fergusson as “one of the finest examples of purely Hindu temple architecture in India.” The temple represents the pinnacle of the Kalinga School of Temple Architecture, with a sprawling complex that houses 150 subsidiary shrines. The presiding deity, Lingaraj, is revered as Swayambhu, the self-originated Shivling.
Established in 1932, the Odisha State Museum is the premier repository of the state’s cultural and historical heritage. Its expansive complex features numerous galleries, each dedicated to a distinct aspect of Odisha’s past, offering visitors a comprehensive journey across eras. The museum is located 10 km from the conference venue.
Situated 5 km from the conference venue, the Tribal Museum is a beautifully designed destination that showcases the rich traditions of Odisha’s indigenous communities. Exhibits highlight tribal clothing, customs, jewelry, and food practices, alongside replicas of traditional homes and artefacts. With souvenir shops and a food court on-site, the museum offers both cultural immersion and a delightful outing for families and friends
Just 3 km from AIIMS Bhubaneswar, these ancient rock-cut caves transport visitors back to the 2nd century BC. Commissioned by King Kharavela of the Meghavahana dynasty, they served as dwellings and meditation spaces for Jain monks. Discovered in the 19th century by British officer Andrew Sterling, the caves remain a rare glimpse into Odisha’s enigmatic past. Of the original 117 caves, 33 survive today—18 at Udaygiri and 15 at Khandagiri.
Located 65 km from Bhubaneswar, the Sun Temple at Konark epitomizes Odisha’s architectural brilliance. Built in the 12th century AD by King Narasimha Deva I, this UNESCO World Heritage Site honours the Sun God. Its monumental scale, balanced design, and intricate carvings continue to mesmerize visitors from around the world.
